Don’t Lie
**Story Based off of and inspired by the music video for Haru Haru by Big Bang**
WARNING!! Some scenes contain course language! *didn’t know how else to express some scenes*

[Tien and Aris are facing each other]
NARRATOR
Two years ago
TIEN
[Hands Aris a ring]
For you, because you are my world, my everything.
[grabs ring] Forever?
ARIS
Forever.

NARRATOR
[Tien and Aris are still standing face to face. Tien’s two friends Roy and John are standing in the background behind them]
Present day.
TIEN
What do you mean?

ARIS
[hands ring to Tien]

I said it’s over Tien, sorry. I just don’t feel that way about you anymore.

TIEN
I-I can’t take this, I refuse to believe we’re through.

[Seth approaches from Left Stage]

ARIS
Fine, if you won’t take it back, I know just who to give it to. My NEW boyfriend.
[looks at approaching Seth.]
Speak of the devil. Here he is.


SETH
[Puts arm across Aris]

Hey there, how’s it going?
[Kisses Aris lightly then looks up]
Oh, Tien, whatcha doing here?

TIEN
Seth? Seth’s your new boyfriend? What the hell Aris? My BEST friend?!

SETH
Looks like got dumped hard there buddy, yup, she’s my girl now.

ARIS
[Hands ring to Seth]
Here, this is for you. Forever?

SETH
Forever.

TIEN
I can’t believe this.
[Turns back to others, and starts to walk off stage. Seth grabs Tien’s arm.]
Get the F*** off me!
[Spins around and punches Seth in the face.]

SETH
[Spitting out blood]

What the hell was that for?!

TIEN
[Rams Seth against wall]

I don’t believe you! You know that I love Aris! How, how could you?


SETH
[Shrugs off Tien’s hands]

Hey, not my fault she doesn’t love you anymore. Get over it dude.

TIEN
Get over it?! You got a lot of nerve telling me that.
[Seth and Aris start to walk off stage while Roy and John approach Tien]

ROY
Are you just gonna let him walk off like that?

JOHN
He just stole your girl man, best friend or not, that’s low.

TIEN
Shut up.

ROY
Don’t “Shut up” us man, go over there and get her back.

TIEN
[runs to grab hold of Aris’s hand]

Aris, wait.

SETH
Can’t you admit defeat? Or is that too hard for you?

TIEN
SHUT UP! I HATE YOU! [punches Seth hard in the face forcing him to fall down] You took the only person who ever made me feel whole. You just expect me to take that?!

SETH
Yeah, actually I did. [gets back up] She ain’t yours any more so what should you care? [shoves Tien hard] So I recommend stepping off, and leaving us alone.


TIEN
The only one who’s gonna be stepping off is you, Seth.

SETH
[smirking]
I’d like to see you try and make me.

TIEN
[grabs a hold of Seth’s shirt and punches him yet again]

Come on! That the best you got jerk? I don’t quite think I’ve released enough “pissed offness yet”

[Tien and Seth continue to throw punches, neither one noticing that a teary eyed Aris has left the stage. Roy and John notice that the fight is endangering their friends and step in to break it up.]

ROY
[trying to hold Tien back]

Hey, knock it off man, it’s over.

JOHN
[Holding Seth back]

Stop it, you’re acting like children.

TIEN
You guys are the ones who told me to get her back. [shrugs off Roy and goes for Seth again] I’m not through with the B****** yet!
SETH
Well you know what runt? I’m through with you.
TIEN
How dare you?! [lunges for Seth again, but is stopped by Roy and John. Seth leaves stage] Get your ass back here! [Seth flicks Tien off, still walking away, not turning to look.] F*** you too! I hope you die! Then I wouldn’t have to look at your ugly betraying face anymore! [after Seth exits stage Roy and John release Tien.]

ROY
What the hell was that? You handled that no better then a delinquent.


TIEN
Leave me alone.

JOHN
Tien! You can’t do this to us too!


TIEN
See if I care. [Tien leaves stage. Roy and John leave stage as well, but on the opposite side.]

[stage goes dark, Tien, Seth and Aris all enter stage and stand away from each other. Light shines on whoever is speaking]


ARIS
This is so wrong. But, what other choice do I have?

SETH
My best friend man, I feel for him but, it might be for the better.

TIEN
Friends huh? What’s the point? Backstabbers, all of them.

ARIS
Tien, I’m so sorry. You’ll thank me later, I know.

SETH
He’ll hate me for life.

TIEN
You know what? I just don’t care anymore. Screw everyone else but me! [slumps to the floor] I-I can’t do that, they all mean so much to me. What do I do?
[lights go dark and characters leave stage]

DOCTOR
[holding test results]
Aris?

[Aris looks up and walks over to doctor.]

I’m afraid that my news is very grave, the cancer has spread.

[lights darken. It’s a day or two later, Tien passes Seth and Aris in the streets]

TIEN
Hey. [ignored by the two] What you two too good for hellos? [once again, ignored] What the hell man? At least say something! [grabs Seth’s arm.] We were so close, what happened?

SETH
[glaring at Tien]
What happened? Last week happened, or incase you had forgotten. [points to bandage on cheek]

TIEN
Listen, I was mad, ok? I’m sorry, I’m over it. It’s cool now.

SETH
Really? How I doubt that.

TIEN
Why don’t you believe me?

SETH
Because it’s so obvious you’re lying it hurts. [kisses Aris passionately and looks up.] And that look you’re giving me proves it. You wanna hurt me right here and now. You’re not over her, you and I both know that.

TIEN
You’re right. [slams fist against nearby parked car.] I’m not over loving her. But, [turns to look Aris in the eyes.] I have no regrets from loving you. I hope you’re happy with him. [Roy and Roy appear on stage and move Tien away from the two, fearing another fight.]

ROY
Dude, we told you not to go near them. What were thinking?

JOHN
Yeah, we don’t need another incident like last week. You two went at it pretty good there, I can’t bear to see something like that again. It’s not right.

TIEN
No, you know what’s not right? Your best friend taking your girl then acting like a total jerk afterwards. That’s what not right.

ROY
Tien, what do you want us to do about it? This is your problem.

TIEN
That’s right it IS my problem. Maybe you guys should just back off, but out and leave me alone!

ROY

If that’s what you want.

JOHN

You shouldn’t do this to yourself, it’s not healthy.

TIEN
Just go!
[Roy and John leave the stage.]

Just go away…[Tien’s at home now, sitting alone in a room.] Aris, I can’t live without you. Life just isn’t the same. Why did you leave me? You just walked away, not even saying goodbye.

[the next day, at the hospital. Seth, Roy and John are sitting beside Aris.]



ARIS
[lying in a hospital bed]
Thanks for coming you guys. It means a lot.

ROY
No problem Aris, your like the only cool girl we’ve known. Besides, you mean a lot a Tien.

JOHN
Yeah, we’ve known you for like ever.
SETH

I wouldn’t leave you like this. It wouldn’t be right. [Seth pauses, and looks Aris right in the eye.] Are you sure you don’t want Tien here?
ARIS

Yes. I-I’m sure. It’s for the better. In fact, it would have best if we never had met at all.

[Roy gets up and leaves the room. Cell phone in hand. He stands by the doorway.]

ROY
[softly so the others don’t hear.] I don’t care if Aris doesn’t want him here, this isn’t right. [flips open phone and dials Tien’s cell’s number. Seth notices, Roy only meets his gaze. He mouths the words ‘Tien’. He leaves the eyesight of the others.] Tien, you there? Pick up please, it’s Aris, she’s in the hospital, we’re all here with her. It doesn’t look good, she’s dying man. You should be here, I know she would want it. You care, don’t fool yourself otherwise.


[Tien walks outside his house. His phone goes off in his pocket. He flips the phone up, ‘Roy’ is displayed]
TIEN
What the hell does he want? [The phone rings out in vain. The message picks it up. Tien freezes as the words spill out of the speakers.] “Tien you there? Pick up please, it’s Aris, she’s in the hospital, we’re all here with her, It doesn’t look good, she’s dying man. You should be here, I know she would want it. You care, don’t fool yourself otherwise.” [The words end.] Aris, in the hospital? [Tien starts to run full tilt towards the hospital.] Oh, God, what happened? Please let her be ok! [He reaches the hospital doors and runs to the receptionists desk] I’m looking for Aris, Aris Whiteroad.


RECEPTIONIST LADY
Who are you?

TIEN
Her friend, where is she?!

RECEPTIONIST LADY

She’s in Intensive Care, room 313.

TIEN
Thanks! [Tien runs for the stairs]

[back in the room.]

ARIS

Seth, maybe I was wrong, do you think that Tien should be here?

SETH

I don’t know, Aris. Wasn’t the whole idea so he wasn’t here?


ARIS
[smiles]

Yeah, you’re right. Seth, you’re a great friend, the best a girl could hope for. It really means a lot to me, what you did. I know it must have been hard for you. I just wanted to say, thanks. Here, give this to Tien, tell him, tell him I said sorry, and goodbye. [Aris holds out the ring that he had given her. Seth takes it.]

SETH

So, that’s it eh? You gonna give up?


ARIS
It’s cancer, Seth. I can’t just will it away. Don’t you think I’ve tried that?
SETH
I saw Roy call Tien, he’s gonna be here shortly. Thought I should tell you that. [Tobae leaves, just as a doctor comes in and shuts the door. The others all waited outside. Seth a little further down the hall. Waiting for Tien. Tien runs up the stairs, he stops when he sees Seth, slowing to a walk, he passes his friend. He is just about to pass him when Seth grabs his arm.]

Wait. [Tien stops and turns around to face Seth] I’m sorry for lying. [He hands the ring to Tien.] She really loved you a lot.

TIEN
[starts to tear up]

What? You mean…
SETH

She, she didn’t want you know. She said that it would be easier for you and her if you just forgot she existed.

TIEN
[Runs around corner to where the others are waiting. The door is closed tight.]

What happened? Why is the door locked?!

SETH

The doctor’s in with now. But it doesn’t look good. I think she’s dieing.

TIEN

Aris…ARIS!!![falls to ground] Why? What did she do to deserve this?! What? We were happy, why couldn’t it stay like that?! Damn, DAMN IT!!!ARIS!!!!Aris…Aris…




SETH
[puts arm around Tien and sits next to him.]

Tien, save your tears. You have to be strong, look around you. [Tien sees his friends around him]
You have all of us for support. [Tien leans on Seth’s shoulder.]

TIEN
Thanks you guys

DOCTOR
You may see your friend now, but please, be quick, we don’t want her too tired

TIEN
[gets up slowly and walks to stand beside Aris, then kneels.]

Aris? You awake?
ARIS
Hey there Tien. Sorry about all I put you through. I guess my plan failed.

TIEN
Aris, don’t be dumb. I want to be here for you. I don’t care if it hurts, it can’t hurt more then thinking you didn’t love me. Next time don’t lie, just say goodbye. Forever?

ARIS
[smiles weakly] Forever.
NARRATOR
Aris dies later that month, Tien at her side the entire time.


[After Aris’s funeral, Tien’s standing by the grave with Seth.]
TIEN
Seth, I’m really sorry. I was wrong, forgive me. I shouldn’t have acted like that.





SETH
She was a strong girl. She came to me one day, she said that she would probably be dying in the next month. It spread so fast, so unexpected. She didn’t want to cause you any pain. She said maybe if it had been like you never met, it would be easier to bear in some way. I’m the one should apologize the most.

TIEN

No, you were just doing what she asked you to, it’s ok, she’s somewhere else now. And, like I said before, I have no regrets of loving her. Every day that goes by I thought of her. Day by day I loved her. I won’t stop thinking of her, but you know? This isn’t the end. The days will continue, there will always be tomorrow, I have friends like you to keep me going. So, Thank you for everything.
